Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder characterized by interruptions in breathing during sleep. It occurs when the muscles in the back of the throat fail to keep the airway open, leading to repeated episodes of shallow or paused breathing. These interruptions, known as apneas, can last for a few seconds to a minute and can occur numerous times throughout the night, disrupting the normal sleep cycle. Sleep apnea can cause a variety of symptoms, including loud snoring, daytime fatigue, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, and irritability. If left untreated, it can also increase the risk of other health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Diagnosis of sleep apnea typically involves a sleep study, where a person’s breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and other sleep-related parameters are monitored. Treatment options for sleep apnea include lifestyle changes, such as weight loss and avoiding alcohol and sedatives, as well as the use of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices, dental appliances, and in some cases, surgery. Proper management of sleep apnea can significantly improve sleep quality, reduce daytime symptoms, and enhance overall health and well-being.
Nightlase therapy is a patient-friendly laser treatment to increase the quality of sleep.
Nightlase allows the safe penetration of heat into the mucosal tissue to tighten it. The laser can reduce the effects of and decrease the amplitude of snoring.
